It is so neat to hear God speaking to us when he reveals things that he wants us to know or to be reminded of. I wanted to list two things that God reminded me of this week. Below is an email that was forwarded to me by my mom and also an excerpt from a Beth Moore bible study that I am doing called "Believeing God." God is so faithful!
First the email:
Adoptive parents understand these words written by the Apostle Paul:
"[We] have received the spirit of adoption by which we cry out 'Abba! Father"' (Romans 8:15 NASB).
Adoptive parents know what it means to have an emptiness in their hearts which causes them to set out on a mission hunting for a child to love. And when that child is found they take responsibility for the child which becomes their child.
That is what God did for us! Knowing full well what we would do and be and the price He would pay, He sought us, found us, paid an awesome price, signed the papers, gave us His name, took us home and gave us the right to call Him "Abba," which literally means, "Daddy." How can you help but love a God like that?
Adoption isn't something earned. Adoption is a gift received. Imagine prospective parents saying, "We would like to adopt little Johnnie, but first we want to know if he has a house for us to live in, money for college tuition, a ride to school in the morning and clothes to wear every day?" No agency would stand for such talk nor would any parent say it. They would faithtfully say: "Wait a minute, you don't adopt little Johnnie because of what he has, you adopt him because of what he needs. He needs a home."Paul didn't say we have earned the spirit of adoption. He said we have received it. That is important because, if we can't earn it by our stellar efforts, we can't lose it through our poor performace.
How reassuring! Why do parents want a child? To love and to share their life with - and that's how God feels about each one of his adopted children today!
And from Beth Moore:
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your workds are wonderful I know that full well. Psalm 139:14
"Prephaps you are adopted, and although you know the mother who raise you, you don't know your biological mohter. God certainly did and still does. God knew her intimately enought to choose her womb for the place where He would fearfully and wonderfully fashion you. God hid you in a blanket of soft tissue and bid your heart to bead. For many days He alone know you existed. You were His secret. God's own skillfull hands knit you together, His watchful eyes gazed on you, and His wise counsel ordained each of your days before you squinted from the light of your first day. Long before technology ordered any sonogram, God watched you suck your thumb in your mother's womb. Amazing, isn't it?" page 46
Thank you Lord for reminding me how special Evan's circumstances are and how special we, your children are to you!
