Beach...Here we come!!

We leave for the beach bright and early, first thing in the morning! I did not fact check this but I stumbled upon it and thought it was pretty interesting...

The average price per day a family
of four spent in 1950
while on vacation was
$13!
The average price per day a family
of four will spend on vacation today
$269!

Average annual vacation days given:
Italy 42
France 37
Germany 35
Brazil 34
United Kingdom 28

Untied States 13
And any family whom has ever been in the adoption process in Russia knows that the annual vacation days in Russia, far exceed them all!
Can I get an, AMEN SISTA?!?!

Flashback Friday

St. Simmons 2007...Just after we found out that we were expecting twins!
One of my favorite Evan-isms of all time....
During that trip we were out on the beach and Clay asked Evan what he thought about the twins (meaning the babies, of course)
and Evan said, "I like all teams, the Cubs, the Braves."

Beach HHI June 2008

We put the babies in their pajamas, feed them and put them in the car. We headed for Hilton Head around 8:00pm and the babies slept pretty much the whole way there and so did Evan. When we got there, they woke up so we fed them and put them to bed in their pack and plays. The did well for their first trip.

I don't have a ton of beach pictures since we never made it out to the beach as a family. I did manage to sneak away for about 30 minutes to see Clay and Evan play together one day. We plan on having a tent next month so we should all make it out there...plus we were only there for a couple of days. We spent most of the time around the room, but did go out to eat at The Salty Dog on night. I had the cutest picture of Elijah in his hat and accidentally deleted it. AARRGGHH!

We enjoyed the local wildlife for sure. We saw the funniest squirrel on our deck, a huge bird, and we even saw an alligator in the lagoon behind us. Evan found some great shells on the beach and even found several sand dollars and starfish. A few of the starfish that he found were still alive. He enjoyed letting them crawl in his hands. I had never seen a starfish alive before, it was very interesting.

"But Mom, I had it first!!"
The Fighting over toys has begun!

Sleeping with Mommy and Daddy is something that only happens in our house if someone is sick, but Baby Lije was a bit out of sorts being in a strange place without his bed so he managed to sneak into Mommy's bed for a nap. SHHHH, don't tell Ella! Evan came in and thought it was the sweetest thing.

Headed for HHI

We leave tonight for Hilton Head. I can't wait to post beach pictures of my three E's. It should be very interesting taking two 5 month olds to the beach. Here are a few from last year. Our family has changed a bit since them. Evan was so mad at me when I made him wear overalls on the beach, he said they were for babies!!

Beach Pictures HHI

Walking out onto the beach...Hilton Head Island
Last year, he was a little taller than the rail...just look at him now.

This is one of my favorites...what a beautiful smile!

Looking for shells...

Evan wasn't too excited about wearing his overalls but they made for some
really cute pictures on the beach. Wesley was fishing with his friends so we didn't
get pictures of our boys together. :-( July 2007.

Beach Pictures...SSI

Here are some pictures that I took while we were in St. Simmons...June 2007

MY SUPER HEROS
I asked Evan who my hero was and he replied, "Jesus, is our hero"!!
What a sweet and true statement!!

I must say, I have the best husband that anyone could ever ask for. Clay is so great! He works so hard to take care of our family. He is my best friend and knows me so well. Everyday I am reminded how blessed I am to have him as my soul mate and I am so thankful to God for him. And, he's the best father too!

We found the perfect spot for pictures...a HUGE old tree in front of the ocean near the pier.
Our Family...This was the day that we found out that we are expecting twins!
I was feeling pretty sick!

Mr. Cool
What a big boy! I can't believe how much he has grown!

School, the beach, and the big 50!

August was a busy month. Evan started school and loves it! He is still at Social Circle Christian School and has the same teacher as he did last year. He goes 3 days a week, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I so enjoy taking him and picking him up from school because he is so fun to watch. He is Mr. Cool at 3 years old! He gets out at carpool and marches up the ramp into the building with no assistance. I often I have remind him that Mommy needs a kiss before he gets out of the car. When I pick him up, we pull over into the parking lot where he shows me his work that he is so proud of and he tells me all about his day. Clay picked him up one day last week and he got there early so he decided that instead of waiting he would go ahead and get Evan about 30 minutes early. Clay thought that Evan would be so excited to see him walk into his room instead he looked at Clay with a funny look and said, “I workin’ hard” like I’m not leaving yet. Clay asked Evan if he was ready to go and he said that he had to finish his work so Clay waited in the car. LOL!!

We went to North Myrtle Beach with Clay’s family and the Schattes met us there. We had such a wonderful time. Evan is such a joy and just loves the beach. He worked hard on teaching Hannah to enjoy the ocean and pool and boy did she ever enjoy it!! We really enjoyed spending the extra time with Uncle Brent since we usually only get to see him on the weekends with limited time. Amma and Ampa bought Evan a dump truck for the beach and he must have ran and pushed it for miles over the beach. If you ask Evan why his Ampa bought him the truck, Evan will answer, “Ampa love me.” We celebrated Hannah’s 3rd birthday by going to the Pavilion which they are tearing down to build high-rises. We enjoyed eating out (and blowing our diets), and just taking it easy. Our last night there we went to eat Japanese with Brent and he convinced me to try sushi…a crazy roll. It was pretty good. Of course, I took lots of pictures to remember the trip. The Schattes will be coming back to Georgia in January so we can celebrate Russian Christmas together on January 7th.

Mimi turned the big 5-0 this month! We had a great time celebrating her birthday. We all went to eat Japanese food and I even called Brent to ask him what kind of sushi to order but it wasn’t that good this time. I hosted a surprise brunch for Mimi and her closest girlfriends on Saturday and it was wonderful. I was so afraid the Evan was going to spill the beans b/c he kept talking about her cake...luckly she didn't pick up on it. She was so surprised, it brought her to tears!

Now that summer is drawing to a close I am looking forward to the fun of fall and all the joy that it brings. I can’t wait for pumpkins and hayrides.

The month of June and E's first trip to the Beach, '06

A lot happened in June. On top of everything else that had happened, we received more tragic news and we afraid of what we would hear next. However, June brought us a lot of happy memories. June turned into a very busy month. We celebrated Father’s day, and Daddy got golf lessons. We celebrated Daddy’s birthday and Daddy got golf lessons…Happy 33rd! Happy 3rd birthday Evan.

The best part about June was Evan’s first trip to the beach! We went to Hilton Head, SC with my parents and Wesley. Once we arrived we went to dinner and then came back to change clothes before we walked to the beach. You know me, I had to dress Evan for pictures first. He wore a cute little Ralph Lauren Jon Jon that he wore for Easter, it was perfect for the beach.

As we climbed the steps to walk over the bridge I ran in front of Evan so that I could see his expression, it was priceless! What a privilege it was experience the awe on his face! This once little Siberian boy stepping foot onto the beach in front of such a vast and beautiful ocean, created by the same hands that created him for us! His month dropped wide open and his eyes were huge as he walked slowly over the bridge and down the next set of steps, careful to not take his eyes off of the beach and ocean as he walked down the steps. He felt his feet in the sand and laughed and then took off running full speed as fast as he could yelling, “beach, beach, beach.” He and Wesley had so much fun just running and laughing. I took a few pictures in front of the sand dunes and then before you knew it they were both in the water with their Easter outfits on! I think those are my favorite pictures of all! You can see such joy and happiness in both of their eyes, two boys who were in for the time of their life and they knew it!

Evan has brought us so much glory and I am in amazement everyday that God choose us to be his parents and that we are able to watch him experience such joy. He is such a happy child and embraces life and everything in it fully. Evan has experienced more in the last 15 months at home with us than he would have probably ever experienced in a lifetime. He is full speed at everything he does. We went to the beach everyday and ate out every night. We went to Harbor Town and climbed the light house and even went crabbing on a crab boat. Spending the week at the beach with my family was wonderful. I loved watching Wesley and Evan play on the beach. Wesley is so special to me and Clay and always will be. He was and always will be our baby too. He got us through a lot of hard times waiting to see how God would have us create our family. We had such a great time; we can’t wait for our next trip to the beach with Clay’s family and the Schattes!
