A Mommy Date...Full of Culture

It's been a while since Evan and I have been on a Mommy Date. The daily hustle and bustle of life has gotten in the way and that's not fair to him. I can't allow this much time to go between dates. They are always so special to us both, he gets to choose whatever it is that he wants to do. Most of the time it seems that it's El Charros and a movie. This time was very different and it was wonderful...not that seeing a movie isn't.

The morning started off like ever ofter Saturday morning...babies up and fed then back down for their morning nap...then I beg to watch Jon and Kate Plus 8. Usually after a little bit of playful begging, Clay and Evan both give in. I think they both secretly enjoy the show though neither of them would ever admit it. Kate took the kids to a children's museum where they were allowed to paint. We had planned to go see a movie that afternoon but after watching that episode, Evan asked if we could go somewhere like that. A while back he had asked questions about what an art museum is asked if we could go to one sometime. I immediately thought about the High Museum of Art in downtown Atlanta. I pulled it up online and guess what?! Saturdays are Studio Saturdays, a chance for kids to make their own masterpieces.
Evan enjoyed the museum even more than I could have ever imagined. After our tour of the museum we went to the studio where he made his own Mono-Print masterpiece. (I'll upload a photo of that later)
A trip to Atlanta wouldn't be complete without a trip to The Varsity. We both got hot dogs, a slaw-chili dog for me and a "naked" dog for Evan. Evan was feeling very inspired so on the way home we stopped by Michael's for art supplies and Mother's day crafts. Evan wanted to paint a canvas so that's what we got. (I'll upload those photos later too)
Of course we read Let's go on a Mommy Date by Karen Kingsbury. I love the last page of the book....
Hey wait, you're here beside me now, is this our Mommy Date? Never mind the other places. Here we are. Why wait? One day we'll go to the park, the circus, farm and zoo, but for today let's cuddle with this book, just me and you.
See, time will take you far from here; you're growing way too fast. All I want is Mommy time to make the moments last. Something we'll remember so that come some far-off day, you'll know how much I loved you 'cause we took the time to play.
It was a wonderful day, one that I will look forward to again and again. I love all of my quiet moments with Evan from our bedtime books, talks and prayers to our big Mommy Dates and each little moment in between. I love you my precious Evan!
I was so mad at myself...I left the camera in the van. Here's one that I took when we got back in the van...proudly showing off his High Museum coloring cards that we were given by taking a short survey.

Evan has always called a museum a nuseum. I guess he's getting to the age where I should correct him but it's so darn cute. This is what he wrote to put in the comment box all by himself. ( I took it out when he wasn't looking...shhh) Not his best handwriting, but hey, I'm okay with that. lol

What a great day, and great way to celebrate being a mommy on Mother's Day weekend! I love the time I have alone with each child. Before Skip it was always him and me, but now of course, we're generally a three-some so I cherish the time I have with alone with them. Even a few hours lets me fcous on the child and their indidual likes & dislikes.

I love the newseum thing too. There are a few things Skip says that are funny and way too cute to correct just yet. Like "Floop Loops" instead of Fruit loops. They grow so quickly, so I savor these little things!

Oh I so ditto the cute mispronunciation of words... I'll miss them way too much when they're gone.

Sounds like a terrific mother's day! Glad you two got your date.
